Malcolm Roulette: The Backyard Theatre Director

We are pleased to announce Malcolm as Director. Malcolm completed his theatre internship with our theatre company. He is currently enrolled in theatre at Providence College. Malcolm has always had a love for the Arts. Those who know him cite his humour and thoughtfulness as two of his strengths.

 






Alyx Buhler: The Backyard Theatre Company Assistant Director

Alyx has been involved in theatre since the age of 4. Her love for the stage has grown over the years and at the recommendation of Malcolm began teaching theater at the Arts Council 2 years ago. Alyx's knowledge and experience includes musicals, staging, costuming, tv and movie work.

    For ages 9-11. Discover the process of preparing for a play by learning your lines, becoming a new personality and exploring the stage.
    Explore the world of acting:

    1. -Story Telling
    2. -Character Building
    3. -Improvisation

    Participate in two separate performances.

    The Actor's Studio

    Location: Studio A (Upstairs)

    For ages 10-12. This class is designed for experienced or mature students – take your acting experience to the next level:

    1. -New Games
    2. -Challenging Scripts
    3. -Improvisation

    Plus have the opportunity to assist in the preparation and character building for two showcase performances.



    Pirates

    The Audition

    Instructor: Malcolm Roulette

    Time: 7:15-8:30pm
    Location: Studio A
    Fees: $315 (Includes Costume Fee), Fundraiser Waiver $50, Volunteer Waiver $25

    For ages 12-15.In this advanced class, students will combine silly improvisation with serious studio practice:

    1. -Warm-Up Exercises
    2. -Writing & Memorization
    3. -Improvisation

    Actors will be fully prepared for an audition by the end of the year.



    Young Company

    Instructor: Malcolm Roulette
    Date: 28 weeks, Sep 11, 2018 - Apr 16, 2019 * No Class Mar 26
    Days of week: Tuesday (Upstairs)
    Time: 8:30 - 9:30pm
    Location: Studio A
    Fees: $100 (Includes Costume Fee), Fundraiser Waiver $50, Volunteer Waiver $25

    For ages 17+. In this advanced class, students will work together to be a performing troupe. Finding local community opportunities to perform and build theatre skills in. 2018 the troupe travelled to White Dog, Ontario.

    Fundraising/Volunteer Requirements
    $50 fundraising cheque and $25 volunteer cheque are required at registration. Options: May pay out directly at registration or participate in fundraiser and/or volunteer (cheques will not be cashed for those who choose to participate).


    Cancellations/Refunds
    Full refunds are given only when you cancel two weeks prior to start date of class/workshop less $20 Administration Fee. If not enough registrants are received for a specific class, there is the possibility that the class will have to be cancelled. If this were to happen the student would receive a full refund.

    Membership fees are non-refundable.
    One week prior to the class, a reminder phone call will be given to let you know the class is coming up, direction to the centre, and location of the classroom along with dates and time of class.

    This is a three (3) strikes policy that states if a student misses three (3) classes without prior notice, the absences are considered as unexcused, and the student will not be permitted to perform in the showcases or recitals. Attendance will also help determine the roles in which a students will become eligible for when casting is deliberated. Productions are a team effort - please be On The Team!
